36 pieces
36-piece jigsaw puzzles.
A proper medium session.
Thirty-six pieces in a 6×6 grid — about ten minutes. The first count at which the picture has real subtleties — small shadows, similar colour areas — that reward looking carefully.
About 36-piece puzzles
Thirty-six is where the medium-difficulty band starts. The grid is dense enough that some pieces look genuinely interchangeable until you check them against the picture, and you'll want to slow down and group by colour before placing. Most people finish in eight to twelve minutes; the more detailed an image, the closer to the upper end.
A good 36-piece puzzle is the right way to take a proper coffee break — long enough to settle into, short enough that you're back to whatever you were doing without losing the thread.

Frequently asked
Is this difficulty good for beginners?
Sixteen and twenty-five pieces are the most beginner-friendly counts. Below that, the puzzle is more of a warm-up than a real session; above 36, you'll want to have done a few puzzles first to build technique.
Can I switch piece counts mid-puzzle?
No — choosing a piece count starts a fresh puzzle from scratch. To try the same image at a different difficulty, finish (or shuffle) the current one and pick the new count from the puzzle page.
What's the typical solving time?
Roughly piece-count minus a few minutes, depending on the image. Lower counts finish in a minute or two; higher counts take twenty to forty minutes for a full session.
