9 pieces
9-piece jigsaw puzzles.
Still a warm-up — but a little more.
Nine pieces in a 3×3 grid. A two-minute session that's just complex enough to feel like a small puzzle, but still fast enough to do during a coffee re-fill.
About 9-piece puzzles
Nine pieces is the place to take a small child who has graduated from four. The grid is still simple — three rows, three columns — and every piece has at most three neighbours, so the matching stays intuitive. Adults use it as a between-things filler when they want a tiny moment of focus without committing to a real puzzle.
On the difficulty curve, nine sits below the threshold where strategy starts to matter. You're still solving by image recognition alone, not by planning. Once that feels too easy, the natural next stop is sixteen.

Frequently asked
Is this difficulty good for beginners?
Sixteen and twenty-five pieces are the most beginner-friendly counts. Below that, the puzzle is more of a warm-up than a real session; above 36, you'll want to have done a few puzzles first to build technique.
Can I switch piece counts mid-puzzle?
No — choosing a piece count starts a fresh puzzle from scratch. To try the same image at a different difficulty, finish (or shuffle) the current one and pick the new count from the puzzle page.
What's the typical solving time?
Roughly piece-count minus a few minutes, depending on the image. Lower counts finish in a minute or two; higher counts take twenty to forty minutes for a full session.
